What Do We Learn?
All beginner classes cover the basics of Leash Walking, Sit, Stay, Down, Come, Heel, Leave it, Drop it, Find it. We teach you how to develop obedience and behaviors without the use of physical punishment or intimidation. We want everyone to have fun learning! Puppies must be under 5 months old at the start date. Puppy topics such as prevention of behavior problems, potty training, socialization, and play biting are addressed. Off leash playtime is at the end of each class

SENIOR DOG CLASSES

For dogs 8+ years, SENIOR DOG classes will provide education on supporting your pet through their golden years. We will discuss mental exercise, physical comfort, environmental enrichment and address common senior dog behavior concerns, such as trouble sleeping at night or increased anxieties. Any dogs eight years and older are welcome to attend, as long as they are both people and dog friendly. There will not be any group play, but dogs need to tolerate being close to other dogs and strangers.

ADVANCED GROUP CLASSES

Group Classes continue to Canine Good Citizen, AKC Rally and Tricks classes. Your dog can be approved for Advanced Classes upon completion of Basic Classes.

ADOLESCENT TRAINING CLASSES

This class is designed for canines aged between 5 months and 3 years, demonstrating no significant behavioral concerns and exhibiting sociable behavior towards both people and other dogs. Dogs in this age range should also possess some capacity to acclimate to new environments.

Structured to guide clients through the challenging adolescent phase of canine development, the curriculum imparts a diverse array of skills, including 'go to your mat,' 'come,' and 'drop it,' among others. These skills are progressively introduced and reinforced in environments of varying levels of distraction.

For dogs already proficient in these behaviors, the course offers opportunities for mastery of more advanced skills. By the conclusion of the program, participants will have acquired a comprehensive understanding of various techniques and strategies to facilitate clear communication between themselves and their canine companions amidst the emotional turbulence of adolescence.

INTRODUCTION TO SCENT WORK

In this course, we will introduce your dogs to the three scents utilized by the NACSW: birch, anise, and clove. Our objectives are to enhance your dog's confidence in exploring various types of containers and to develop your observational skills to accurately identify how your dog indicates the presence of a target odor.

REACTIVE DOG CLASS

This class is specifically designed for dogs that exhibit reactive behaviors, such as barking or pulling, when encountering other people or dogs during walks. The program aims to address these challenges by teaching both the dogs and their owners effective techniques for managing and reducing reactivity. Through a combination of positive reinforcement, behavior modification strategies, and controlled exposure to triggers, participants will learn how to promote calm and appropriate responses in their dogs. This course is ideal for pet owners seeking to enhance their dog's social skills and improve the overall walking experience.

TRICK TRAINING CLASSES

This course will explore a range of tricks aligned with the AKC Novice Tricks Title, alongside select maneuvers accepted within the AKC Intermediate Tricks Title. Our curriculum is tailored to accommodate the individual learning pace of each participant's canine companion. Through patient instruction, dogs will develop proficiency in responding to cues such as 'paws up,' 'crawl,' and 'back up.'

Moreover, the course will delve into pivotal principles including the gradual fading of lures, the cultivation of 'off switches,' and techniques for promoting relaxation. These elements are integral not only to enhancing your dog's responsiveness to commands but also to nurturing their emotional well-being throughout the training process.
